Hi class, today we’re diving into an important topic: ADHD, or Attention-Deficit, also known as Hyperactivity Disorder.
8.4 percent of children and 2.5 percent of adults experience attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or ADHD.
Understanding the symptoms might be harder in adults than in children, as most ADHD symptoms are behaviors that everyone struggles with once in a while.
Like forgetting to pay the bills, spacing out during a conversation or missing school or work deadlines.
However in ADHD, these are more constant and disruptive. Inattention impulsivity and sometimes hyperactivity are key symptoms. These symptoms usually occur together.
There are three major types of ADHD:
ADHD, combined. This is the most common type. A child with this type is impulsive and hyperactive.
ADHD, impulsive or hyperactive. This is the least common type of ADHD.
and ADHD, inattentive and distractable. A child with this type is mostly inattentive and easily distracted.
Managing ADHD often involves a mix of strategies: breaking tasks into smaller steps, using tools like planners or timers, and creating a structured environment.
Remember, ADHD is just one part of a person’s story. With the right support and strategies, individuals with ADHD can thrive. Let’s continue this conversation in our next session!
